Newsletter, Fall 2009

Dear Friends,

Fall is in the air and harvest is a time of much anticipation and though we monitor progress and change in the vineyard all year, you can never fully predict what Mother Nature will throw at you. We harvested all of our fruit in the month of October this year.  We barely beat the rain by picking Lampyridae Vineyard Zinfandel on Monday, October 13th and the rain came on the 14th.   We are now well beyond harvest and with all of our varietals in tanks and preparing to barrel down, we feel very good about this season.

We are very proud of what we have accomplished this year and they just keep talking:

2007 Lampyridae Vineyard, Zinfandel

88   * – Connoisseurs’ Guide to California Wine
Volume 33 Issue 11: September 2009

The first impression upon smelling this wine is that it has given itself over to pushy, toasty, spotlight-grabbing oak. But, as is often the case, first impressions can be misleading, and, here that was so, because there is plenty of ripe blackberry fruit underneath just yearning to breathe free, which it does with little more than a hard shake of the glass. The wine is full in body, on the supple side to start but drifts into slight stiffness in the latter palate and wants a bit of aging.

Make sure to look for us in your town, we are distributed in Northern and Southern CA, Reno, Maryland, Ohio, DC and coming to New Mexico soon.  We only produce about 700 cases so if you can not find us in your neighborhood you can always visit us on our website.

Be sure to join our Mailing List for all the latest including special offers from the winery.

Thank you for the continued support.

Cheers!
John, Michele & Samuel Schulz
